Preserving Our Past, Building Our Future

The Colorado Building, a cherished landmark nestled in the heart of the Arkansas Valley in Colorado, has a rich history and a promising future that continues to captivate both locals and visitors alike. Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, this architectural gem stands as a testament to our heritage and serves as a beacon of hope for the community it calls home. The story of the Colorado Building begins in the late 19th century when it was constructed during the height of the region’s mining boom. At that time, the Arkansas Valley was teeming with prospectors and settlers drawn by the promise of riches hidden beneath its rocky terrain. The building served as a hub for various businesses, including mining companies, mercantile stores, and even a local newspaper, making it a vital part of the burgeoning community. Over the years, the Colorado Building witnessed the ebb and flow of the valley’s fortunes. As the mining industry evolved and the town grew, so did the building itself. It underwent several expansions and renovations, reflecting the changing needs and aspirations of the people it served. Through boom and bust cycles, it remained a steadfast symbol of resilience and endurance.
